In 1993, Chestnut Land Company founder Ed Muransky was attending the ICSC convention in Las Vegas. While at the convention, Ed was curious about a line of people that had formed around a small booth. Always interested in potential investments, Ed went to see what the line was all about. Soon thereafter, Ed was sampling a delicious product called Auntie Anne's Soft Pretzels. Anne Beiler, the founder of Auntie Anne's who created her pretzel perfection at a farmers market stand in Downingtown, PA in 1988, was also attending the ICSC to showcase her product. After tasting those pretzels in Las Vegas, Ed and Anne began to build on a relationship that resulted with Ed deciding to become a franchisee with Auntie Anne's Soft Pretzels. After conversations with Anne, Ed decided to establish his first Auntie Anne's location at Florida Mall in Orlando, Florida, one of the busiest malls in the country. After finding success at this initial location, Chestnut began adding a few stores each year starting with Tyrone Square Mall in St. Petersburg, Florida and Southern Park Mall in Ed's home town of Youngstown, Ohio. Chestnut Land Company continued opening a few stores each year ending 2008 with 28 stores in six states. Understanding the power and potential of the Auntie Anne's brand, Ed's vision is to diligently explore all avenues of expansion and take full advantage of those opportunities. Ed hired Chris Sammartino in 2009 as Chief Operating Officer with the charge to take Chestnut to the next level. Chestnut established six new stores in 2009, 11 new stores in 2010, and 13 new locations in 2011. With the completion of our expansion plans in 2013, Chestnut Land Company became the largest Auntie Anne's franchisee with 65 locations in 14 states. With our continued growth into 2014 and 2015, we are projected to be at 76 locations in 16 states. Ed believes in surrounding himself with the right people that allows the company to grow aggressively, while maintain quality and efficiency. Chestnut has raised the bar for performance ...

What Skills Does a person Need at Chestnut Land Co?

At Chestnut Land Co, specify the abilities and skills that a person needs in order to carry out the specified job duties. Each competency has five to ten behavioral assertions that can be observed, each with a corresponding performance level (from one to five) that is required for a particular job.

  1. Customer Service: Customer service is the provision of service to customers before, during and after a purchase. The perception of success of such interactions is dependent on employees "who can adjust themselves to the personality of the guest". Customer service concerns the priority an organization assigns to customer service relative to components such as product innovation and pricing. In this sense, an organization that values good customer service may spend more money in training employees than the average organization or may proactively interview customers for feedback. From the point of view of an overall sales process engineering effort, customer service plays an important role in an organization's ability to generate income and revenue. From that perspective, customer service should be included as part of an overall approach to systematic improvement. One good customer service experience can change the entire perception a customer holds towards the organization.
  2. Coaching: Coaching is a form of development in which an experienced person, called a coach, supports a learner or client in achieving a specific personal or professional goal by providing training and guidance.
  3. Leadership: Knowledge of and ability to employ effective strategies that motivate and guide other members within our business to achieve optimum results.
  4. Merchandising: In the broadest sense, merchandising is any practice which contributes to the sale of products to a retail consumer. At a retail in-store level, merchandising refers to the variety of products available for sale and the display of those products in such a way that it stimulates interest and entices customers to make a purchase. In the profession of merchandising you are either employed by the store in which you work, or by an independent distributor. As a professional merchandiser, in a retail setting, you will not only know your products(I.e. coffee, juice, soda, etc.) but you will gauge other “vendors” like products as you tend to your job. Working with the store and other merchandisers, shelf space is often given or taken as need be in some locations(for some young merchandisers this is known as “war”) In retail commerce, visual display merchandising means merchandise sales using product design, selection, packaging, pricing, and display that stimulates consumers to spend more. This includes disciplines and discounting, physical presentation of products and displays, and the decisions about which products should be presented to which customers at what time.
  5. Planning: An act or process of making or carrying out plans. Establishment of goals, policies, and procedures for a social or economic unit city planning business planning.
