CCMC, named after Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital, has provided healthcare to the residents of Coleman County since 1923. A second building was added in 1935, and was connected to the original building with enclosed corridors. In 1967, a new patient care wing was added to the north side of the facility and the original portion of the hospital was closed. The first floor of the north wing was enclosed in 1977 to provide additional space. Currently, the first floor of the facility provides patient care and houses administrative and management offices. The second floor is occupied by the surgical and maternity departments and the hospital's rural health clinic, Coleman County Medical Associates. The clinic provides primary care through private family practices run by the doctors and mid-level providers of CCMC. Like most small, rural hospitals, CCMC was hit hard financially by the Balanced Budget Act of 1997 that substantially cut Medicare payments. Revenue was drastically reduced but the cost of caring for the patients remained the same. To maintain the quality of care the community had come to expect, Coleman County residents voted to create a hospital district as a means of keeping the hospital open. The tax money generated from the hospital district helped pay operational costs for CCMC. Subsequently, the hospital applied for Critical Access status to further improve its economic stability. Critical Access status allows the hospital to increase its income by increasing the amount in Medicare payments received. The hospital was awarded that status in March of 2004. To continue to guarantee the hospital's ability to deliver quality healthcare to Coleman County and surrounding communities, the Hospital District Board hired Preferred Management, a management company providing innovative, comprehensive management services to hospitals and healthcare facilities in rural areas, to operate the hospital in 2011.

Hospital-based acute inpatient care typically has the goal of discharging patients as soon as they are deemed healthy and stable. Acute care settings include emergency department, intensive care, coronary care, cardiology, neonatal intensive care, and many general areas where the patient could become acutely unwell and require stabilization and transfer to another higher dependency unit for further treatment.
