Community Services of Nevada (CSNV), formerly known as the East Las Vegas Community Development Corporation (ELVCDC), is a 501(c)3 HUD Approved corporation, established in 1996. The corporation began as an organization of volunteers who met once a week to discuss the benefits of establishing a community development corporation within their community. Working closely with the Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC) development team, community residents and social service providers joined to form the East Las Vegas Community Outreach Corporation. The ELVCDC was a unified organization whose mission was to improve the quality of life by strengthening communities through public and private sector investments. In 2001, the word "Outreach" was replaced by "Development". The corporation was then known as the East Las Vegas Community Development Corporation (ELVCDC), whose mission included the support of the development of self-sufficient families. Working with public and private sector agencies, the corporation engaged in comprehensive community development projects that promoted neighborhood revitalization and economic development; community education and civic action; youth development and cultural awareness, equity and unity. In 2002, ELVCDC completed the Mi Casa En El Sol (My Home in the Sun) project, a 40-unit housing development located in East Las Vegas. These were the first homes built in the area in 30 years, which made a major difference in the beautification of the neighborhood. This development exemplifies excellence in the area of affordable housing because it gave vitality to a blighted neighborhood that was plagued with crime and drugs while giving 40 low-to-moderate income families the opportunity to become homeowners, with the majority of them receiving an average of $27,000 in forgivable down payment assistance through the City of Las Vegas. Neighborhood Association and Neighborhood Crime Watch groups were formed, which are still in existence. In 2008, in response to the changing economic and ...
