Mission - The mission of DBMAT is to promote and improve the quality of life for all Texans who are deaf-blind multi-handicapped, deaf multi-handicapped, and blind multi-handicapped. We support the establishment of educational, rehabilitative, vocational and independent living opportunities. Vision - DBMAT recognizes that people who are Deaf and Blind will benefit from the provision of Quality Intervener Services lifelong. When intervener services are provided from the age of diagnosis, the person who is deaf-blind is most likely to develop to their full potential. As the person who is deaf-blind grows, his/her needs will change, but quality intervener services will always be required. The DBMAT Board recognized this as their primary vision during their Board meeting Service, held on June 9, 2006. DBMAT is now working with the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, Texas Education Agency, The Department of Assistive and Rehabilitive Services, and the Texas School for the Blind- Deaf-Blind Outreach Program to implement this vision in the coming years. Principles - We promote family education and understanding of their deaf-blind family member's abilities and disabilities. We offer resource information and referral to families, professionals, state agencies, and provider agencies serving people who are deaf-blind. We help facilitate parent-to-parent linkage in geographical areas and statewide. We encourage sibling-to-sibling networking. We cause public awareness of the special needs surrounding these unique handicapped conditions. We solicit contributions to help us in our endeavors to further the mission of the organization.
