Up until 2017, our focus revolved around supporting the Educational Community in the County. In 2018, we broadened our field of membership to also include all the citizens of Harford County, their families, as well as, individuals that worship and work in the County. With this exciting change, comes a renewal of the focus to deliver exceptional experiences to our existing Members, our Education Community and to the Community at Large. As many of you may already know, via Community postings, Facebook and the Har-co-gram, I joined the Credit Union in June of 2019. The first major initiative I culturally felt compelled to institute was an employee supported Member Experience Pledge. This Pledge is a document that every employee has signed, pledging their commitment to deliver an experience that is memorable and exceptional. In fact, our Branches and Corporate Office have a Member Experience Pledge hanging on their wall, signed by every Employee and Board Member. The pledge was also posted on our website. Please take a look and familiarize yourself with it. We ask that you give feedback on how we are achieving stewardship of this important and valued pledge. I am also excited to inform you that your Har-co Team is diligently working on refocusing and redesigning some of our product and service offerings. New lending and deposit products, as well as enhancements to existing products are being contemplated and designed. Stay tuned!

What Skills Does a person Need at Har-Co Credit Union?

At Har-Co Credit Union, specify the abilities and skills that a person needs in order to carry out the specified job duties. Each competency has five to ten behavioral assertions that can be observed, each with a corresponding performance level (from one to five) that is required for a particular job.

  1. Technical Support: Offering hands-on assistance and solutions to end-users in addressing and troubleshooting technical issues.
  2. Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting is a form of problem solving, often applied to repair failed products or processes on a machine or a system. It is a logical, systematic search for the source of a problem in order to solve it, and make the product or process operational again. Troubleshooting is needed to identify the symptoms. Determining the most likely cause is a process of elimination—eliminating potential causes of a problem. Finally, troubleshooting requires confirmation that the solution restores the product or process to its working state. In general, troubleshooting is the identification or diagnosis of "trouble" in the management flow of a system caused by a failure of some kind. The problem is initially described as symptoms of malfunction, and troubleshooting is the process of determining and remedying the causes of these symptoms. A system can be described in terms of its expected, desired or intended behavior (usually, for artificial systems, its purpose). Events or inputs to the system are expected to generate specific results or outputs. (For example, selecting the "print" option from various computer applications is intended to result in a hardcopy emerging from some specific device). Any unexpected or undesirable behavior is a symptom. Troubleshooting is the process of isolating the specific cause or causes of the symptom. Frequently the symptom is a failure of the product or process to produce any results. (Nothing was printed, for example). Corrective action can then be taken to prevent further failures of a similar kind.
  3. Customer Service: Customer service is the provision of service to customers before, during and after a purchase. The perception of success of such interactions is dependent on employees "who can adjust themselves to the personality of the guest". Customer service concerns the priority an organization assigns to customer service relative to components such as product innovation and pricing. In this sense, an organization that values good customer service may spend more money in training employees than the average organization or may proactively interview customers for feedback. From the point of view of an overall sales process engineering effort, customer service plays an important role in an organization's ability to generate income and revenue. From that perspective, customer service should be included as part of an overall approach to systematic improvement. One good customer service experience can change the entire perception a customer holds towards the organization.
  4. IT Support: Assisting with managing, maintaining, and repairing business technology to ensure all IT functions work seamlessly.
  5. Project Management: Project management is the application of processes, methods, skills, knowledge and experience to achieve specific project objectives according to the project acceptance criteria within agreed parameters. Project management has final deliverables that are constrained to a finite timescale and budget.
