The Hideaway is quite rich in history! From 1934 to 1965, a bar/restaurant was started on the location by Duke and Ida Atlas, who raised two sons there, Herbert and Charles. At the beginning of WW2, Herb and Charles sold oversized ham sandwiches on Saturdays, down at the train station, to the newly-inducted soldiers. When Duke passed away, the restaurant was sold to Abey Chaney. We know every little about the following decades. Fast forward to the mid-to-late 70's, when the location was purchased by Jim Keeney and his wife. Jim's Hideaway became the "go to" location for crabs and beer in the Baltimore-Washington-Annapolis corridor. Jim was a gregarious, hugely-likeable man and his restaurant became an Odenton institution, with Jim contributing a great deal to the local community. Locals grew-up at Jim's Hideaway, got engaged there, celebrated family and community events there...and Jim's dream became a much-loved placed to hang-out with old friends (and meet new ones)! Jim became ill in the 90's, and there was a succession of owners who slowly allowed Jim's Hideaway to deteriorate. Even in its neglected state, the Odenton faithful kept coming (and having fun). In early 2014, Bob Krohn and Danny & Diane Reugg, of Annapolis, visited the restaurant and saw it's great character, wondering why such a potentially cool place had deteriorated so much. The rest is history. After a year of renovation, the new Hideaway was born...and we are dedicated to conserving and bringing back the Hideaway as the great local institution it was.

  1. Photography: Photography is the art, application and practice of creating durable images by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation, either electronically by means of an image sensor, or chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film. It is employed in many fields of science, manufacturing (e.g., photolithography), and business, as well as its more direct uses for art, film and video production, recreational purposes, hobby, and mass communication. Typically, a lens is used to focus the light reflected or emitted from objects into a real image on the light-sensitive surface inside a camera during a timed exposure. With an electronic image sensor, this produces an electrical charge at each pixel, which is electronically processed and stored in a digital image file for subsequent display or processing. The result with photographic emulsion is an invisible latent image, which is later chemically "developed" into a visible image, either negative or positive depending on the purpose of the photographic material and the method of processing. A negative image on film is traditionally used to photographically create a positive image on a paper base, known as a print, either by using an enlarger or by contact printing.
