The mission of the Holland Park Church is to be a compassionate, loving congregation of God's people united for worship, teaching, evangelism, fellowship and various other ministries to provide spiritual, emotional and material support to one another and to our community. As our response to the words of Jesus to "go into all the world", we support nine full-time national mission workers in Croatia, Honduras, Nicaragua and Ukraine. The Holland Park congregation moved into its new building on Holland Road in Mauldin, South Carolina in August of 2008 after 18 years as the Northeast Church of Christ located on Edwards Road in Taylors, South Carolina. Prior to that, the congregation was located on Wade Hampton Boulevard in Greenville for 18 years. Each move was necessitated by growth in membership which, as of 2015 is about 640. Our Holland Park property is a 22-acre site located off I-385 just south of Greenville. A large, wooded area with a walking trail and picnic tables are available for use by the community as well as for the church members. The building provides a bright, spacious area for our well-staffed children's minstry, a multi-functional facility for a large and very active youth group, classrooms, an auditorium, offices, and other support facilities. Future plans include a larger auditorium plus additional classrooms. Dozens of small groups meet during the week for Bible study, support and encouragement. The congregation is served by five elders, seventeen deacons, three ministers, and an office staff.

Humanist groups, which act on behalf of non-religious people, have developed pastoral care offerings in response to growing demand for the provision of like-minded support from populations undergoing rapid secularisation, such as the UK. Humanists UK for example manages the Non-Religious Pastoral Support Network, a network of trained and accredited volunteers who operate throughout prisons, hospitals, and universities in the UK. The terms pastoral care and pastoral support are preferred because these sound less religious than terms such as chaplaincy. Surveys have shown that more than two thirds of patients support non-religious pastoral care being available in British institutions. Similar offerings are available from humanist groups around Europe and North America.
