A major role will be as a patient's advocate in the medical care system serving as confidant, advisor and liaison between patients and physicians. II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assists the surgeon in the preoperative care and work-up of patients. Assists the surgeon in each surgical procedure. Participates in postoperative care of patients, being especially knowledgeable in the recognition of postoperative complications. Performs therapeutic procedures and assignments as directed by the surgeon and as indicated by his/her training and experience. Job Qualifications: Education: Bachelor of Science

Responsibilities The Physician Assistant (PA) is certified by the State Board of Medicine (or State Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners) to provide medical services under the direction of the supervising physician. The PA augments the physician's data gathering abilities in order to assist the supervising physician in reaching and instituting care plans for the physician's patients. The PA provides patient medical screenings to determine medical attention, reviews patient medical records to determine health status, obtains patient medical history, and performs history and physical examinations.
