Horizon Academy is a specialized school with programs that educate students with attention and learning challenges. Horizon Academy's goals are to help students become learners by mastering basic skills and strategies to be effective, efficient learners. The student body is coeducational and serves students from first grade through high school. The staff is a highly professional team that assesses the needs of each student, provides tools for their 21st century learning, and creates a very caring, nurturing environment that is felt by students and parents alike. It is my pleasure to introduce you to this special learning community that has been in operation since 1999. Horizon Academy serves students in a 75-mile radius from the Kansas City area. Students are funded privately, either by parents or by local school districts. Horizon Academy holds accreditation with Independent Schools Association of the Central States, the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and AdvancED. Each child's Individual Educational Plan (IEP) drives the curriculum for the students. The basic curriculum at Horizon Academy is reading, spelling, math, written expression, middle school content classes, credit high school classes, social skills training, technology training, P.E., art, music, dance, and drama. The school utilizes a diagnostic approach where each child is carefully observed and assessed daily.
