KAN-WIN's was started to address the needs of women and children affected by domestic violence in the Korean American community; however, KAN-WIN recognizes the great need within all communities, and in particular Asian immigrant communities where the resources are especially sparse. Therefore, KAN-WIN's services are not limited to the Korean American community. KAN-WIN's services are delivered in Korean and English, and KAN-WIN has served other Asian American women in English. KAN-WIN has a 24-hr crisis hotline, which serves callers with various ethnic backgrounds. KAN-WIN can provide referrals and information through an interpreter if a caller is not comfortable speaking English. For example, KAN-WIN currently has a strong relationship with Chinese speaking counselors and could provide referrals as needed. KAN-WIN can also provide collaborate with other social service agencies to provide the most appropriate services to domestic violence victims. KAN-WIN does not have any temporary shelter sites. KAN-WIN makes emergency and short-term shelter placement referrals and hosts a transitional housing program. The transitional housing program is a 12-18-month housing subsidy program that is the final step for women trying to make a permanent break from violence.
