Lake Winnepesaukah was started by Carl and Minette Dixon in 1925 and has since transformed from the original swimming, boating and picnicking destination to the South's favorite family amusement park. The park is owned and operated by the third and fourth generations of the founding family, making it the third-longest continuously family-owned amusement park in the U.S. Through the years the family has continually added new features to the 100-acre amusement park, including over 40 rides and attractions. The waterpark is the first major expansion since the park doubled the number of rides and added the antique Carrousel and the wooden Cannon Ball Roller Coaster in the 1960's. Lake Winnepesaukah was named one of America's top 10 favorite family amusement parks by Travel and Leisure magazine and was featured in the documentary "Great Old Amusement Parks.
