At least 50% of our members are found in the Hackensack (County Seat) area where we share our office with our blue collar (Local 655) brothers and sisters. But our administrative structure, as envisioned by our founders and leaders, encompasses the whole county and is directed by an executive board. The executive board is comprised of a president, an executive vice president, a treasurer, a recording secretary, a trustee and area vice presidents (AVPs). There is one AVP position each for: One Bergen County Plaza and the Court House in Hackensack; Other Locations, encompassing scattered, far-flung smaller worksites; The BC Health Care Center (BCHCC) in Rockleigh, our five-star nursing home. Geography aside, board members work together as a team, covering for each other, each having one vote at meetings. Terms are for three years. The president chairs meetings and leads the union. In his/her absence, the executive vice president presides and, if he/she is not available, another board member takes their place. Meantime, about twenty elected shop stewards keep their area members up-to-date and serve as local advocates, reporting to their area vice presidents and touching base with our fulltime USWU rep and our Local 755 elected officers as needed. This structure enables the fulltime rep to serve more effectively, visiting areas that the officers-with regular county jobs-may not easily cover. The fulltime rep reports to the national union's public sector director and represents and defends individual members before the county administration in consultation with Local 755's president. ****
