Manatee County Habitat for Humanity Homebuyer program enables qualified families to achieve the dream of homeownership with the purchase of their own home. Manatee Habitat is "hand up, not a hand out program. Qualified candidates meet income and credit guidelines, invest 300-500 hours of sweat equity into the construction of their home, build and escrow account and complete a series of Homebuyer and financial literacy classes. Only after a qualified candidate has completed these steps do they become eligible to purchase a home from Manatee Habitat and secure a 25 year loan at 0% interest. Homeownership is an investment in a family. The 2013 Shelter Report developed by Habitat International indicates that " Homeownership plays a unique role in the long-term development and resiliency of our communities. Higher levels of homeownership typically breed healthier neighborhoods, and ongoing research strongly points to homeowners as anchors of their communities who are not only financially invested in where they live, but also more likely to build the human links with their neighbors that promote the stable communities all Americans desire." The achievements of Manatee Habitat would not be possible with out the tremendous support of our volunteers.
