The owners of Morton Golf LLC have a long term lease to manage and operate the City of Sacramento Municipal Golf Courses. In 2008, the owners of Morton Golf LLC decided as part of their community outreach to create a 501c3 charitable entity to financially help underserved golf organizations that are in need as well as programs for the disabled and youth within the Sacramento Region. After going through the normal lengthy process to acquire an IRS Tax Exempt Status, The Morton Golf Foundation (MGF) was born in 2010. It was decided that one of the unique qualities about the MGF was to not pay any person wages or earnings out of the revenues earned. Over the first five years of existence by the Morton Golf Foundation, 97% of all net revenues have been made available for grants and scholarships. In other words, only 3% of the revenues generated have been used for overhead of the organization. The initial vision of the organization was to research and help supplement needy programs within the Sacramento Region that open up the game of golf to people from all walks of life. It didnt take long to learn there were several small groups in the region that not only introduced golf to different special interest groups but also used golf to build character and life-long relationships. The First Tee of Greater Sacramento (TFTGS) was another entity in Sacramento that was creating significant interest within school programs and within their affiliate golf courses for the purpose of building character, healthy eating habits and exercise programs through the game of golf. Many of the kids within TFTGS programs developed excellent skills as golfers through those programs. The Morton Golf Foundation found there to be several needy kids in the TFTGS programs that didnt have the financial resources within their family to purchase equipment, take golf instruction or pay the fees to compete in local competitions.
