Nature Of Work An employee in this class is responsible for supervisory tasks of average difficulty involving planning, assigning, directing, and reviewing the work of detectives, police officers or other personnel. Under general supervision, employees must exercise initiative and independent judgment in performing assigned tasks to include performance appraisals, investigation and adjustment of grievances, and discipline of subordinates. The employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in dealing with the public and be able to make accurate decisions and give advice to subordinate officers calmly and quickly in emergency or hazardous situations.
