Nateks recruiting efforts began in 1990, with the founder Mark Dillon. He started in targeting the power generation industry, including Independent Power Producers (IPPs). Mark worked with major companies like General Electric, Westinghouse, and Bechtel recruiting and placing engineers, project managers, sales professionals, managers/ directors, and executives in many of its national and international divisions. Several years later, as stronger environmental regulations were being implemented to address growing pollution problems, there was increasing pressure on power producers to curb emissions. Utility companies began offering incentives to reduce energy demand which slowed power producers business for the short-term, and Mark decided that it was an appropriate time to shift Nateks recruiting efforts towards the Demand Side Management (DSM) side of the industry. Acting on this instinct was well-rewarded, as emerging industry emphasis on DSM programs gave rise to the beginning of the performance contracting/ guaranteed savings wave, and Natek caught and rode this wave with tremendous success.
