The Firm was founded in Cleveland, Ohio as a sole proprietorship in 1938 by Walter B. Stone. Lewis B. Frauenthal joined the firm in 1956, shortly thereafter became a partner, and then managing partner. Steven H. Newman joined the Firm in 1983 and in 1985 became a shareholder. For over thirty years the Firm's office was located on Euclid Avenue at East 18th Street. In June of 1988 the Firm moved to expanded, refurbished quarters in the Park Plaza building on Chester Avenue and remained there until 2002. In December of 2002, the Firm moved to their current location on the tenth floor of the Ohio Savings Plaza building on East Ninth Street. In May of 2005, after nearly 50 years of professional practice, Mr. Frauenthal retired from the firm and the accounting profession. Steven H. Newman is now the 100% shareholder and President of the firm. Including Steve, the firm consists of eleven employees, which includes five certified public accountants, three staff accountants, a director of development, an office manager/administrator and a secretary/receptionist. The professional staff is trained to work in tax, accounting, management services, business valuations, and consulting; however, some have advanced training in some areas of service provided. Newman & Company, CPAs provides a full range of services that include: accounting, tax planning and compliance, personal financial advice, business planning, business valuations, litigation support, and cost segregation studies. When the firm started, its philosophy was to provide comprehensive and personalized service. The firm has operated under different ownership over the years; however, its basic philosophy has remained the same: to provide quality accounting and personal attention to small and medium size businesses, the backbone of the American economy.
