The North Shore Health Department has a proud and respected tradition of providing excellent health services to our North Shore communities. With our knowledgeable staff,we are continuing our mission to assure, promote, and protect the health and safety of the people in the North Shore. The North Shore Health Department works with a Board of Health, comprised of a licensed medical adviser and members appointed for a two-year term by village presidents or the mayor of each community. Our staff consists of a health officer, an administrative assistant, a registered sanitarian, a public health manager, and registered nurses who are public health nurses. The North Shore Health Department is one of the many benefits that make living in our communities very special. Our services and programs are thoughtfully selected and carefully planned to make our communities safer and healthier, and to provide a better way of life for all residents. In 1993, the contractual relationship between Shorewood and Whitefish Bay was established to form the Shorewood/Whitefish Bay Health Department. The Shorewood/Whitefish Bay was a Level I health department, providing five basic public health services. These included a communicable disease program, a generalized nursing program, offering health promotion and disease prevention, and human health hazard prevention and control. In 1996, the contractual relationship was established between Bayside, Brown Deer, Fox Point, Glendale, and River Hills to form the North Shore Health Department (NSHD). The NSHD was a Level II department, providing seven public health programs or services that address state and local health priorities.
