ODAT provides direct intervention support to qualifying victims of street violence in East Contra Costa County. Victims are qualified and referred by John Muir to our Intervention Specialist. The job of the Intervention Specialist is to provide services to prevent re-injury, retaliation, recidivism and improve educational attainment, employability, health status and social and professional skills. Services are provided for up to 12 months and can include crisis intervention, case management, linkages to community-based services, mentoring, home visits and follow-up assistance to promote mental and physical recovery from trauma and assistance with transportation to meetings relating to violence inferred injury. Additionally, some financial resources are offered on a case by case basis for clients facing extreme hardships. Q: What is the associated cost to the youth, families or clients? A: There is no cost to the youth, families or clients in our program. All ODAT program costs are funded through donations, funders, grants, and direct service contracts. Youth activities and events are paid through fundraisers and donations. Q: How many people have benefited from ODAT? A: Since it's founding in 1997, One Day At a Time has provided direct services to over 2,000 youth and young adults, primarily at the middle and high school levels. An additional 24,000+ students have benefited from ODAT's indirect services through workshops and site visits at local schools. Additionally all students attending schools services by ODAT benefit from an improved school climate. East Contra Costa communities have also directly benefited from reduction in re-injury, retaliation and recidivism caused by street violence.
