As the sun rose over the eastern buttes of Harding County, arguably the harshest region of South Dakota, brothers F.M. and H.W. Clarkson had already been in the pasture tending their sheep for an hour. The Clarksons were hard working men who were known for their fairness and their willingness to help neighbors. In fact, it was just those qualities that would help them create what was to become Western South Dakotas premier agricultural and business bank. In 1913, they formalized their practice of helping neighbors by establishing a bank in the prairie town of Buffalo. In 1937, the brothers expanded and founded the Bank of Belle Fourche. From those humble beginnings Pioneer Bank & Trust grew to become one of the safest banks in America. In 1956, we expanded our service capabilities by establishing a full service Trust Department. Pioneers Trust Department offers complete trust and estate planning, plus investments. The next branch opened was in Spearfish, then in Rapid City. With the new regional presence it was time for a new, appropriate name, and in 1986 Pioneer Bank & Trust was born!As the bank grew and our locations became diversified we decided to centralize our administration, operations and computer technology in a new Administration Center in Spearfish. And in 2011, we added a sixth Pioneer Bank location in Sturgis.Today, Pioneer Bank & Trust offers a varied and complete assortment of state-of-the-art banking products and services. Although we believe our products are highly competitive in todays high-tech banking world, it is our hometown, personal service that is responsible for our significant growth. This is reaffirmed continually by the direct feedback we receive from customers!

What Skills Does a person Need at Pioneer Bank & Trust?

At Pioneer Bank & Trust, specify the abilities and skills that a person needs in order to carry out the specified job duties. Each competency has five to ten behavioral assertions that can be observed, each with a corresponding performance level (from one to five) that is required for a particular job.

  1. Leadership: Knowledge of and ability to employ effective strategies that motivate and guide other members within our business to achieve optimum results.
  2. Customer Service: Customer service is the provision of service to customers before, during and after a purchase. The perception of success of such interactions is dependent on employees "who can adjust themselves to the personality of the guest". Customer service concerns the priority an organization assigns to customer service relative to components such as product innovation and pricing. In this sense, an organization that values good customer service may spend more money in training employees than the average organization or may proactively interview customers for feedback. From the point of view of an overall sales process engineering effort, customer service plays an important role in an organization's ability to generate income and revenue. From that perspective, customer service should be included as part of an overall approach to systematic improvement. One good customer service experience can change the entire perception a customer holds towards the organization.
  3. Coaching: Coaching is a form of development in which an experienced person, called a coach, supports a learner or client in achieving a specific personal or professional goal by providing training and guidance.
  4. Products and Services: Knowledge of the full array of our organization's products and services including those that are created for internal customers; insight into the differentiating factors that distinguish them from those of competitors.
  5. Business Development: Business development entails tasks and processes to develop and implement growth opportunities within and between organizations. It is a subset of the fields of business, commerce and organizational theory. Business development is the creation of long-term value for an organization from customers, markets, and relationships. Business development can be taken to mean any activity by either a small or large organization, non-profit or for-profit enterprise which serves the purpose of ‘developing’ the business in some way. In addition, business development activities can be done internally or externally by a business development consultant. External business development can be facilitated through Planning Systems, which are put in place by governments to help small businesses. In addition, reputation building has also proven to help facilitate business development.
