The Assistant Appointments Counsel will report to the Appointments Counsel and will support all of the office’s background check processes for appointees to NYS job and board positions. Specifically, the selected candidate will: Review appointees’ background check files for potential issues and conflicts of interest; Follow up with candidates and agencies to resolve issues and answer questions about the appointments paperwork; Review and approve preliminary background materials (PBMs) for job candidates; Work with the Governor’s Counsel’s Office to resolve background check issues; Work with agency Counsel offices to implement recusals for appointees as necessary; Track the status of appointee paperwork, issues, and recusals; Determine candidates’ eligibility for appointment to New York State boards and commissions; Read and interpret statute to determine eligibility requirements;
