The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe, Solid Waste Program, Transfer Station is implementing new rates and publishing its schedule of services for solid waste disposal, recycling and other services. Effective Ohiari:ha/June 1, 2014 the new rates will be in effect. Overall, the tipping fee has increased by $10 per ton, raising it to $120/ton. The rate increase was necessary following a rate increase instituted by the County of Franklin Solid Waste Disposal Authority (CFSWDA) earlier this year. The Pay As Your Throw (PAYT) residential collection rate is now $5.00/bag or $25/pack of 5. Even with this increase PAYT is cost effective when households regularly recycle and compost. As always, recycled materials are accepted at no cost to community members either at the recycling depot in Hogansburg or at the Transfer Station. The PAYT is an economical way to provide community members with a safe and healthy home with regular weekly curbside pickup. Despite the rate increase the Solid Waste program has much to offer to help community members offset their costs for solid waste management. Some new rates and convenient services that the program is now offering include single bag drop off at the Transfer Station for $5.00 for kitchen size waste bags and $15.00 for contractor size bags. Used tire rates have changed slightly, making disposal rates more consistent with local disposal options. A single passenger tire without a rim can be dropped off for $4.50. Despite offering this service the Solid Waste program encourages community members to leave the tire with the garage they purchase their tires from. The disposal cost for tires disposal is included in the cost of a new tire. If community members are looking for other "no cost" disposal alternatives they will find that all electronic waste (E-waste), automotive batteries, and now disposable/rechargeable batteries (e.g.-AAA, AA, C, D, 9V, 6V, nicad, etc.) are all accepted at the Transfer Station without charge.
