Clinical expectations are essentially the same as for any PMS provider, based on discipline, with a strong emphasis on providing care for individuals with substance use disorders (SUD). The specialist role would be to identify barriers to access for SUD care throughout PMS and implement strategies to reduce these barriers. One role would be to provide support to clinicians with less experience prescribing medications for SUD, particularly opioid use disorder (MOUD) by directing and leading regular ECHO-type (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) educational and supervisory sessions for PMS providers.
