In 1923, Ray (R.J.) Schwarz founded Schwarz Insurance Agency in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin. He ran the agency from his home until 1970, when the 350 Prairie Street location was built. In the 1950s, R.J.'s sons, Don Schwarz and Bob Schwarz, both joined the agency after college and continued to head the agency after Ray's death in the late 1970s. Don and Bob guided the agency during a heavy growth era which saw the business expand from one office and five employees to four offices and thirty employees. In 2012, Schwarz Insurance relocated its corporate headquarters, after more than 40 years at 350 Prairie Street, to 1420 North Ridge Drive in Prairie du Sac's North Ridge Business Park. Since the early 1990s, the agency entered its third generation of family ownership. Siblings Brian Schwarz, Tom Schwarz and Kathy Schwarz have overseen more agency purchases and growth.
