At Sequoyah, we have made every effort to allow for school safety and safe extra-curricular activities. We have been testing students weekly and found several students that were positive, but asymptomatic which has helped reduce the COVID spread among our communities. We continually make decisions that are in the best interest for everyone at Sequoyah, as well as our Cherokee communities. Those decisions are based on science, facts and compassion. Because we have a surge in COVID cases at this time, we have notified OSSAA that Sequoyah will not participate in season basketball. We have worked tirelessly to allow student athletes to socially interact through practice, but do not feel it is safe for our students to play other students, gathered in large crowds. Our hospital and clinics are strained. We have implemented our "surge plan" due to the ICU beds being full. While students may not be as harshly impacted by the virus, the families and communities they go home to, are. Students or families with concern can reach out to our superintendent, Mr. Corey Bunch at 918-453-5000. Mr. Crittenden and Mrs. Cloud will be in the office Monday-Wednesday (7:45 am-3:45 pm) to assist families with any needs.
