The idea for Sien + Co started in 2015 when Alexandra Gibson left her position in event management and booked a spontaneous trip to Nepal. The trip had the makings of a disaster: the country was reeling from the 2015 earthquake, the airline lost her bags, and her then 4 year old daughter Page was along for the ride. The result, however, was far from disastrous. Without luggage the mom/daughter duo wandered the streets of Kathmandu and stumbled upon a group of women at a Nepali artisan cooperative and were welcomed into the fold. Five days, several pieces of knitwear, a few finger puppets and many friendships later, their luggage finally arrived and "normal" travels ensued. That week spent gathering with other women to create, would forever shape Gibson's life and Sien + Co was born, a small knitwear company that quickly evolved into a high-end home decor business. The search for the perfect fiber led Gibson to South America where she developed relationships with designers and artisans in remote areas of Peru and Argentina where several trips are made each year to discover new fibers and design new products. In 2018, Sien + Co launched a new collection of performance fabrics in partnership with Sunbrella®. Inspired by the imperfection of handcraft, these fabrics are the thickest, most texturized Sunbrella fabric ever created. This collection has allowed Sien + Co entrance into the world of hospitality and projects with esteemed AD 100 firms such as Nate Berkus, Meyer Davis, BAMO, and Yabu Pushelberg. Current projects include the new Ritz Carlton Costa Rica, Rosewood Vietnam and Mandarin Oriental Grand Cayman.
