Stopover, Inc. began in 1970 as a program to provide services to young people who had run away from home and was affiliated with the Episcopal Diocese of Indianapolis. In 1981, Stopover began planning a new approach to service delivery-home-based, family-centered counseling eventually incorporating it the crisis intervention and group home programs. Stopover is currently affiliated with the John H. Boner Community Center a community-based, not-for-profit social service agency that provides programs and services responsive to the needs of the diverse population of the near eastside of Indianapolis. Through the affiliation with the Boner Center, Stopover became eligible to receive support funding from United Way of Central Indiana. The Transitional Living Program began in 2008 following a grant from the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Since its inception in 1970, Stopover has served over 5,000 runaway, homeless, abused, and neglected youth. Stopover's mission continues to be to provide a safe and supportive environment for youth in crisis, and to serve and support families to enhance their ability to care for their children and youth.
