When most of the focus is on the students at Valley Heights, there is a group of invaluable employees behind the scenes that make sure that everything is running smooth. There are secretaries, cooks, technical gurus and many more that contribute to the overall well-being of the school environment. A very important team that is seldom seen is the custodians that keep our school safe and clean. According to careerplanning.com, in 2010 there were about 2,310,000 custodians employed in the United States. At Valley Heights we have three very hard working custodians who help the students have a clean and neat working environment. Winnie Hyde, Jimmy Kemp and Susie Davis are seen around the high school usually cleaning up the gym after football, basketball and volleyball games. Jimmy was hired in July of 2015 to replace maintenance supervisor Bob Lindquist. Winnie has been a custodian at Valley Heights for 9 years. Winnie explained that her least favorite job is cleaning the boys' locker room during football season; her favorite thing to do is anything that involves being outside, including shoveling snow and marking the football field. Susie has worked at Valley Heights for 31 years and has been a custodian for 2 years. Susie cleans the classrooms every afternoon. She says her favorite classrooms to clean are Mrs. Ugarte and Mr. Nolte's because they are cleaning fanatics. Something Winnie and Susie would like to see more around Valley Heights is the students cleaning up after themselves; if you drop something pick it up and place it in the trashcan. Our custodians like it when clubs have dances even though they have to clean they said they always get thank you notes for their work. Valley Heights' custodians are another example of people behind the scenes that keep our school well maintained.

At Valley Heights, specify the abilities and skills that a person needs in order to carry out the specified job duties. Each competency has five to ten behavioral assertions that can be observed, each with a corresponding performance level (from one to five) that is required for a particular job.

  1. Leadership: Knowledge of and ability to employ effective strategies that motivate and guide other members within our business to achieve optimum results.
  2. Customer Service: Customer service is the provision of service to customers before, during and after a purchase. The perception of success of such interactions is dependent on employees "who can adjust themselves to the personality of the guest". Customer service concerns the priority an organization assigns to customer service relative to components such as product innovation and pricing. In this sense, an organization that values good customer service may spend more money in training employees than the average organization or may proactively interview customers for feedback. From that perspective, customer service should be included as part of an overall approach to systematic improvement.
