Walter C. Wagner, Jr. began his career in commercial real estate in 1954 after graduating with an economics degree from the University of Notre Dame. He became an associate of R. J. Stewart & Associates in Louisville, Kentucky. By 1959, Walter decided to open his own commercial real estate company. His first major client was the Rouse Company who developed The Mall at St. Matthews, the first fully enclosed mall in Kentucky. Walter brokered the land lease with the Rouse Company and was the leasing agent for The Mall attracting the original anchor tenants of A & P, Kaufman-Straus and Roses. His next big deal was the sell of Plainview Farms (975 acres) to a group of developers who would later form NTS. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the Walter Wagner, Jr. Co. grew and prospered with such major clients as Kroger and Kentucky Fried Chicken. Walter personally mentored many young agents, some of whom rose to success with their own commercial ventures and real estate firms. Walter also developed a thriving property management business and oversaw the leasing and management of office buildings, retail centers, and industrial properties for clients. Jody Zimmerman joined the company in 2002, bringing twenty years of entrepreneurial skills to the company. He graduated from Clemson University in 1981 with a degree in Chemical Engineering and received his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Louisville in 1986. Jody is the sales director and the strategic planner for the company. The Walter Wagner Co., LLC celebrates its fifty seventh year in business in 2017, has twelve associates, and four staff personnel.
