From philosopher to farmer to landscape designer. For as long as I can remember, I've had two great loves: nature and growing food. As a philosophy major at Purdue University, I experimented with vegetarianism and learned to cook and bake using vegan and macrobiotic techniques. I followed my love of food and adventure to Mt. Vernon, Washington, where I worked as an organic farmer, learning responsible and sustainable ways to grow food. My career aha! moment was a happy accident. The farm I worked at all those years ago practiced something called permaculture, and one of their main produce buyers at the Skagit Valley Food Coop was a permaculture teacher. This proved serendipitous as I made my way to Seattle to attend grunge shows (it was 1992, after all!) and figure out what was next. After taking a Permaculture Design certification course, I soon enrolled in a graduate program at Antioch University, where I earned a Masters in Whole Systems Design. In 1995, I founded WeDesign as a way to help West Seattle homeowners grow food in their own backyards while giving them sustainable, ecologically sound landscapes to enjoy, and I haven't looked back since. 25 years later, I am more dedicated than ever to ecological landscaping. I love collaborating with sustainability-minded homeowners in West Seattle to design beautiful, creative garden spaces that draw inspiration from the principles of nature. My goal is to help homeowners create affordable designs and healthy landscapes that work within the larger ecosystem. What Skills Does a person Need at Wedesign Inc?

At Wedesign Inc, specify the abilities and skills that a person needs in order to carry out the specified job duties. Each competency has five to ten behavioral assertions that can be observed, each with a corresponding performance level (from one to five) that is required for a particular job.

  1. LMS: LMS means learning management system. A learning management system is a digital learning environment that manages all aspects of a company's various training efforts.
  2. Leadership: Knowledge of and ability to employ effective strategies that motivate and guide other members within our business to achieve optimum results.
  3. Project Management: Project management is the application of processes, methods, skills, knowledge and experience to achieve specific project objectives according to the project acceptance criteria within agreed parameters. Project management has final deliverables that are constrained to a finite timescale and budget.
  4. Instructional Design: Instructional design (ID), also known as instructional systems design (ISD), is the practice of systematically designing, developing and delivering instructional products and experiences, both digital and physical, in a consistent and reliable fashion towards an efficient, effective, appealing, engaging and inspiring acquisition of knowledge. The process consists broadly of determining the state and needs of the learner, defining the end goal of instruction, and creating some "intervention" to assist in the transition. The outcome of this instruction may be directly observable and scientifically measured or completely hidden and assumed. There are many instructional design models but many are based on the ADDIE model with the five phases: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.
  5. Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting is a form of problem solving, often applied to repair failed products or processes on a machine or a system. It is a logical, systematic search for the source of a problem in order to solve it, and make the product or process operational again. Troubleshooting is needed to identify the symptoms. Determining the most likely cause is a process of elimination—eliminating potential causes of a problem. Finally, troubleshooting requires confirmation that the solution restores the product or process to its working state. In general, troubleshooting is the identification or diagnosis of "trouble" in the management flow of a system caused by a failure of some kind. The problem is initially described as symptoms of malfunction, and troubleshooting is the process of determining and remedying the causes of these symptoms. A system can be described in terms of its expected, desired or intended behavior (usually, for artificial systems, its purpose). Events or inputs to the system are expected to generate specific results or outputs. (For example, selecting the "print" option from various computer applications is intended to result in a hardcopy emerging from some specific device). Any unexpected or undesirable behavior is a symptom. Troubleshooting is the process of isolating the specific cause or causes of the symptom. Frequently the symptom is a failure of the product or process to produce any results. (Nothing was printed, for example). Corrective action can then be taken to prevent further failures of a similar kind.
