Compensation Manager leads the development, implementation, and administration of compensation programs, policies, and procedures. Manages common compensation functions, including survey participation, job evaluation, salary structure development, incentive plan design, pay program administration and other associated initiatives. Being a Compensation Manager ensures that base pay, incentive pay and performance management programs remain competitive and conform to current compensation strategy. Directs data collection and analysis processes for market, pay equity, and other compensation studies. Additionally, Compensation Manager requires a bachelor's degree. May require a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Compensation Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Compensation Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Summary

    The Incentive Compensation Governance Manager will be responsible for implementing, managing and maintaining governance and oversight programs in response to regulatory expectations (i.e. Dodd Frank compliance) and associated processes.
    This role will evolve risk and incentive analysis in partnership with lines of business, risk, and compliance partners. This role will ensure incentive compensation programs, supporting documentation, and processes embed and document appropriate risk balancing mechanisms. This role will also oversee, maintain, and evolve Comerica's incentive governance policies mature Comerica's risk framework, lead internal working group(s), and support various committee, regulatory response and compensation processes.

    Position Responsibilities:

    Execution & Development

    • Collaborate with HR Risk to evolve Comerica's regulatory programs to conform with external and internal guidance (covered employee identification and training, systemic framework database, stress testing of incentive plans as applicable, and related activities).
    • Responsible for all aspects of the Incentive Risk Working Group and reviewing Category 1 & 2 individual risk assessments.
    • Catalog and prioritize key risk balancing mechanisms within all incentive compensation programs.
    • Provide committee materials as applicable, including incentive compensation policies.
    • Oversee Comerica's annual risk assessment of incentive plans with established vendor(s), partnering with key stakeholders to ensure reviews are complete and evolve appropriately.
    • Develop and review incentive reporting to identify trends and recommend improvements particular to controls and/or ensuring plans incentivize appropriate behaviors.
    • Establish and maintain KRIs/KRMs to proactively track risk and their risk outcomes.
    • Prepare regulatory exam responses, in support of the HR Risk Director.
    • Prepare education and training materials to support incentive governance programs.

    Collaboration

    • Partner with risk and compliance partners as appropriate to stay abreast of regulatory and compliance expectations.
    • Coordinate with the HR Risk, HR Consultants and others to prepare exam responses.
    • Work with Incentive Compensation, Compensation and Executive Compensation to ensure Q1 guidelines and expectations align with risk goals and outcome expectations, including rationale review and providing effective challenge.
    • Assist with HR audits.
    • Participate in industry forums, as applicable.
    • Support ad-hoc projects and other duties, as assigned.

    Position Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree with a focus in Human Resources, Business, Regulatory, Risk Management or related field
    • 7 years of experience in project coordination/management including development and execution of project plans
    • 5 years of experience in financial services specific to incentive compensation and risk balancing mechanisms
