Construction Foreman directly supervises workers' day-to-day work on construction or installation projects. Coordinates subcontractor scheduling and the delivery and placement of on-site materials and equipment as required to execute each project phase. Being a Construction Foreman monitors productivity and work quality to meet schedules and standards. Troubleshoots any issues involving workers, contractors, safety, quality, changes, or processes and expedites solutions. Additionally, Construction Foreman completes or tracks daily time and labor reports. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Construction Foreman supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a Construction Foreman typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     About the Job:

    Position is responsible for performing skilled craftwork activities in any of the following areas of carpentry, concrete, and steel work and for serving as a lead to skilled and/or unskilled construction workers in the absence of a Job Superintendent.  Duties include laying out areas for footings or walls, monitoring and assigning work to employees; coordinating, organizing, and overseeing construction projects and purchasing materials in the absence of a superintendent; operating and overseeing equipment operation; maintaining equipment; inspecting work in progress to ensure that work conforms to specifications and adherence to work schedules. The Foreman is the fourth level of an eight-level construction series.   The Job Foreman is distinguished from the Skilled Construction Worker by its responsibility for coordinating tasks within a project and serving as a lead to other Skilled Construction Workers, Construction Workers, and Laborers.  The Foreman is distinguished from the Job Superintendent which has full supervisory authority and responsibility for determining means and process for overall project accomplishment.

    Required Skills/Abilities: 

    • Coordinating tasks and/or projects in foreman capacity;
    • Inventorying supplies and materials;
    • Operating and maintaining equipment;
    • Jobsite layout;
    • Monitoring employees and serving as crew leader;
    • Reading blueprints and engineering plans;
    • Communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
    • Valid Driver’s License 

     

    Education/Experience: 

    • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.)
    • Or four-six years of construction- related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties such as those listed above.
       

    Physical Requirements: 

    • Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, driving, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
    • Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions and intense noises.
    • Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
