Interstates is growing, and we are currently seeking a Benefits Specialist to join our Interstates Benefits Team. The Benefits Specialist will assist with benefits paperwork, open enrollment, and LOAs. This position is open to a hybrid work location from our offices in Sioux Center, IA, Omaha, NE or Sioux Falls, SD. The Benefits Specialist is to provide a high caliber level of service, including responding to employee questions by phone and email communication.

• Serves as subject matter expert by utilizing in-depth knowledge of benefit programs, company policies and administrative procedures.
• Processes and monitors all leave-of-absence requests and paperwork i.e. FMLA, personal, etc.
• Collaborates with Payroll on LOAs, disability benefits and donated PTO.
• Answers routine to moderately complex benefit-related questions and troubleshoots questions on employee coverage.
• Recommends communication topics and develops education and communication material.
• Executes communication strategy as developed in partnership with Marketing.
• Maintains Benefits information on company intranet.
• Completes annual Health and Welfare audit, 401K annual audit, and annual compliance testing.
• Assists with planning and executing open enrollment each year.
• Recommends and plans benefits events such as flu shot clinics, biometric screenings, investment speakers, and other benefits events.
• Adheres to all aspects of HIPAA privacy rules, ensuring full compliance.

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or Finance and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience using advanced functions of Excel required.
• 3-5 years experience with Benefits or HR Experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to form relationships with internal and external stakeholders across various locations.
• Strong computer skills.
• Attention to detail and the ability to prioritize work.
