Volunteer Coordinator supervises and leads the daily undertakings of a volunteer program to attract, inspire, train, and deploy volunteers. Leads the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of volunteer workers. Being a Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for training and educating volunteers. Motivates and inspires volunteers to encourage teamwork. Additionally, Volunteer Coordinator evaluates and reviews volunteer schedules and makes adjustments as necessary. Ensures that the activities of the volunteer workers meet the needs of the organization. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Volunteer Coordinator supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Volunteer Coordinator typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Thorough knowledge of functional area and department processes.     Position Overview – Volunteer Coordinator:

    • Represent Empyrean Hospice with the utmost professionalism and compassion

    • Develop and maintain the volunteer training and orientation program

    • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organization skills

    • Recruit, educate, and coordinate volunteers from recurring recruitment sessions

    • Establish volunteer services needs with the patient and family/caregiver and entire hospice interdisciplinary team

    • Provide hospice education and the volunteer role in hospice to the community and prospective volunteers

    • Maintain monthly statistics, personnel files, budget adherence, and documentation

    • Ensure standards of ethical business and clinical practice are prioritized

    Position Qualifications

    • Professionalism, compassion, empathy, and a desire to help others

    • Self-directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision, yet also as member of a complete care team

    • College degree, advanced degree in human services preferred

    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a health care setting, hospice and/or volunteer experience preferred

    • Understands the hospice philosophy and end-of-life care

    • Ability to organize, supervise, and develop volunteer hospice personnel for both patient and organizational needs

    • Ability to manage a group of individuals providing volunteer time and who will be considered employees

    • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication, and organization skills

    • Computer proficient with Microsoft suite

    • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

    • Must possess a willingness to maintain comprehensive working knowledge regarding information systems and applicable software programs
