PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To perform professional accounting tasks requiring comprehensive knowledge of GAAP and governmental accounting standards. Responsibilities may include verifying, monitoring, balancing, and reconciling accounts; preparing journal entries and financial reports; calculating and documenting complex accruals and expenses; reviewing and approving journal vouchers, invoices, and cash requirements listing for payables; assisting in preparation of budget and rate analysis; interpreting and researching GAAP and FERC standards; to maintain highly accurate financial records pertaining to MES accounting in accordance with established accounting policies and internal controls; to assist Manager, Finance and Accounting with all functions of the accounting department as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
Required:
· Bachelors in accounting or near completion of bachelor’s degree.
· Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, terminology and modern office procedures.
· Must be skilled in managing multiple activities which require a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, working independently, and organizing work to meet deadlines.
· Must be knowledgeable of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and applicable Federal, State and Local laws, rules, and regulations.
· Must provide documentation of completion of a four-year college level curriculum, and other training obtained applicable to this position.
· Must be knowledgeable of purchasing and accounts payable.
· Must be able to become knowledgeable of MES inventory, plant ledgers, general ledgers and subsidiary records and procedures.
· Knowledgeable of all payroll processes and reporting requirements.
· Must be skilled in analyzing transaction data and learn to relate it to the TVA system of utility accounts classification and reporting.
· The ability to learn, inform and instruct customers on McMinnville Electric System’s rates and policies.
· Excellent computer skills, typing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Access, and in the use of general office equipment.
· Ability to learn and proficiently use McMinnville Electric System’s computerized accounting system.
· Ability and willingness to assist Manager, Finance and Accounting in the areas of financial reporting, banking, budgeting, internal controls, rate analysis, FEMA reporting of declared disasters, and other special projects.
· Must be self-motivated, honest, dependable, and a team player.
· Must be able to exercise confidentiality.
· The satisfactory passing of McMinnville Electric System’s pre-employment, post-offer physical examination, drug screen, and background check.
· Attends and participates in safety meetings as required.

Preferred:
· Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an accounting environment.
· Previous accounting experience in the utility environment.
· Ability to become knowledgeable of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
· Previous experience in public interaction.
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Residency Requirement: Due to the emergency nature of utility work, this position is subject to current residency requirements of MES.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Overtime may be required on short notice. Occasional travel overnight outside the MES service area to training and/or conferences required.
