    Assistant Director of Nursing for Nursing Home

    Full-time Exempt/Salaried Position - Salary is competitive and negotiable

    Monday through Friday, approx. 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., availability for consultation required on alternate weekends with Director of Nursing

    Purpose: Assist in the planning, organizing, developing and directing of nursing services in the nursing home in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and as may be directed by the Director of Nursing or the Administrator, to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care can be maintained at all times.
    Essential Functions include but are not limited to the following:
    • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with interdepartmental personnel;
    • Visit each resident at appropriate intervals to ensure appropriate resident care is being provided and make corrections as necessary;
    • Inspect and monitor nursing staff and procedures to ensure that the department personnel, residents and visitors follow established policies and procedures;
    • Assist in the development of and participate in programs designed for in-service education, on-the-job training, orientation, and continuing improvement of department personnel;
    • Maintain an excellent working relationship with medical professionals and community health-related facilities and organizations;
    • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis throughout the unit/shift;
    • Meet with department personnel to identify and correct problem areas for the improvement of services;
    • Participate in discharge planning, development and implementation of resident care plans, resident assessments, etc.;
    • Interview residents or family members, if requested;
    • Perform administrative requirements in a timely manner, such as lab orders, forms, reports, etc., either digitally or by other means;
    • Monitor inventory of medications, medical supplies, equipment, etc., for adequate stock levels at all times;
    • Evaluate emergencies and determine emergency measures to be used; report such events according to established policies and procedures;
    • Make independent decisions regarding nursing care;
    • Delegate authority, responsibility, and accountability to other responsible unit/shift personnel;
    • Assist in the recruitment, selection and training of competent department personnel;
    • Review and evaluate the departments work force and make recommendations to the Director of Nursing;
    • Ensure the total nursing needs of residents are met by supervising the Staff Coordinator in scheduling a sufficient number of nursing personnel to be on duty at all times;
    • Assure that nursing personnel follow the organization's established nursing procedures;
    • Make rounds with attending physician as necessary;
    • Assist the charge nurse, and other nursing personnel, in performing nursing procedures as necessary.

    Qualifications


    Minimum Requirements:
    • Hold an active Registered Nurse license in Kansas
    • Have at least one year of experience in geriatric nursing
    • Have served at least one year in a supervisory position in a health care facility
    • Read, write, and fluently speak the English language
    • Be a minimum of 23 years of age
    • Be able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
    • Deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, medical professionals, government agencies and the general public
    • Know nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to nursing home operation
    • Work harmoniously with and supervise professional and non-professional personnel
    • Be confident in your ability to assist with planning, organizing, developing and implementing the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures of the nursing department.
