Aerospace Engineer researches and develops structural engineering specifications for aerospace products, parts, or associated operations to improve the efficiency and reliability of aerospace systems. Analyzes results of stress tests on various craft and missile parts to determine material durability and tolerances. Being an Aerospace Engineer oversees flight tests of prototypes and analyzes resulting data to validate flight characteristics and identify necessary improvements. Conducts calculations and utilizes simulations to evaluate aerodynamics, structural integrity, propulsion efficiency, and the effect on fuel consumption of new or existing materials. Additionally, Aerospace Engineer utilizes CAE, 3-D, and digital modeling to create detailed plans and specifications to support production. Assists quality assurance and purchasing teams with the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, products and materials, or technologies. Understands and complies with all federal regulatory requirements and specifications. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Aerospace Engineer work is closely managed.     Collins Aerospace is looking for a Sr. Quality Engineer to support our Cheshire, CT location. In this role you will be reporting directly to the site Sr. Quality Manager. This position will be key to support operations within Collins Aerospace Cheshire, CT. This role requires an individual with a hands-on approach to Quality and continuous improvement combined with data analytics knowledge.

    This position will require regular communication with parties both internal and externally to communicate quality results and identify process and systems improvements. This position requires the ability to prioritize and perform complex tasks within established deadlines. The successful candidate for this assignment must be able to work independently and on project teams in a fast-paced environment using a variety of technologies, reporting skills, communication skills, basic understanding of the Manufacturing Operations as well as basic business and financial acumen.

    The role requires an individual capable of performing a variety of analytics and reporting apply statistical techniques to analyze results, and leverage reporting and data visualization tools to turn data into actionable information. This individual will work with the responsibility to aggregate critical data and metrics, identify performance trends, and develop efficient means to capture, analyze, and report key information to drive performance improvement actions. Candidates should be confident, self-motivated, work well within a team and have the ability to communicate and work at all levels within the business.

    This is an ONSITE role based in Cheshire, CT. This position may be eligible for relocation.

    Primary Responsibilities:
    • Analyze and correlate large, complex data sets and provide information reports to users for further analysis.
    • Develop automated reporting solutions using Excel, VBA, Access, SAP, Business Warehouse, Data Visualization Software, and SQL.
    • Implement data visualization solutions using software such as Tableau and Microsoft Power BI.
    • Develop metric processes and tools, analyze trends, conduct ad hoc reporting, and report out performance to drive real-time actions.
    • Provide user support and training on data analytics tools when appropriate.
    • Create presentations and provide input to key progress reviews for leadership and KPI reviews, monthly Operations Review, Operations CAB.
    • Support continuous improvement efforts to develop standard work, change processes, solve problems, Update and maintain KPI performance trends and monthly control tower.
    • Summarize, develop conclusions, and identify opportunities to achieve improvement targets.
    • Promote the Quality culture in the business, through compliance to the QMS, requirements of AS9100 and adherence to Quality Cardinal Rules
    • Drive problem resolution through to completion for customer and internal escapes.
    • Utilizes Advance Quality Planning techniques (PFMEA, MSA, Process Flow and Control Plans, etc.) to identify risks and propose mitigation solutions.
    • Promote the Quality culture in the business, through compliance to the QMS and adherence to Quality Cardinal Rules
    • Provide line-side support for Quality issues and determination of non-conformance, escalating any significant concerns to the Quality Engineer
    • Represent the Quality function in the manufacturing environment and at Tier review meetings
    • Participate in real-time problem resolution with production and Quality Clinic teams
    • Deployment of containment actions
    • Act as the Quality focal to raise and deploy product / process deviations
    • Generate and prepare FAI (First Article Inspection) reports for customers


    Basic Qualifications:
    • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience
    • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Defense Industry Experience.
    • A basic awareness of Quality Management Systems such as ISO9000 and AS9100
    • AS9102 First Article Inspection knowledge / NETINSPECT
    • IPC-A-610 awareness
    • Ability to interpret and understand blueprints / engineering drawings
    • AS9100 Lead Auditor
    • Knowledge of business management systems: ERP / SAP, Solumina, configuration tools etc.
    • Competent in the use of common IT software including Microsoft Word / Excel / Access databases and SharePoint.
    • Knowledge of some of the common Quality tools: PPAP, NPI / APQP, Control Plans, FMEA, SPC, 8D
    • Strong data analytics skills with the ability to prepare, process, analyze, and visualize significant amounts of information from multiple data sources while keeping the big picture in mind.
    • Advanced Microsoft data analysis capabilities including Excel, VBA, PowerPivot, Access, and SharePoint.
    • Experience building and maintaining reporting and analysis solutions using SAP Business Warehouse queries and/or BW Analysis.
    • Ability to interpret Quality-related data and metric requirements into simple terms, along with training and development for subject matter experts and end-users on business intelligence tools and systems
    • Knowledge and best practices and visualization techniques needed to develop intuitive, interactive data interface solutions.
    • Strong business acumen, ideally in manufacturing operations or finance.
    • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma.

    The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
