Aerospace Engineer researches and develops structural engineering specifications for aerospace products, parts, or associated operations to improve the efficiency and reliability of aerospace systems. Analyzes results of stress tests on various craft and missile parts to determine material durability and tolerances. Being an Aerospace Engineer oversees flight tests of prototypes and analyzes resulting data to validate flight characteristics and identify necessary improvements. Conducts calculations and utilizes simulations to evaluate aerodynamics, structural integrity, propulsion efficiency, and the effect on fuel consumption of new or existing materials. Additionally, Aerospace Engineer utilizes CAE, 3-D, and digital modeling to create detailed plans and specifications to support production. Assists quality assurance and purchasing teams with the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, products and materials, or technologies. Understands and complies with all federal regulatory requirements and specifications. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Aerospace Engineer work is closely managed.     This opportunity is being offered by National Aerospace Solutions, the team selected by the U.S. Air Force to conduct Test and Operations Sustainment at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee.  National Aerospace Solutions is a limited liability company comprised of Bechtel National Inc. (as lead company) and Sierra Lobo Inc. with teaming Subcontractors nLogic Inc. and Chugach Federal Solutions Inc. AEDC operates more than 55 aerodynamic and propulsion wind tunnels, rocket and turbine engine test cells, space environmental chambers, arc heaters, ballistic ranges and other specialized units located in six states. Many of the complex's test units have capabilities unmatched elsewhere in the United States; some are unique in the world. AEDC is one of three installations which are part of the Air Force Test Center (AFTC), one of six subordinate commands of the Air Force Materiel Command organization and an important national resource.

    AEDC’s mission is to conduct developmental test and evaluation for the Nation through modeling, simulation, ground, and flight test.  Execution of the mission requires a large team of highly qualified and dedicated professionals from multiple technical disciplines to effectively accomplish the objectives of our test customers.

    Job Duties:
    • Coordinate design engineering tasks to maintain project schedules and open communications.
      • Serve as central point of coordination for outside organizations that have projects with the Design Group.
      • Assign project tasks for Engineers, Drafters, and Designers and update progress on Deliverables.
      • Utilize project management tools and techniques to monitor project status.
      • Update supervision on issues and assist in conflict resolution.
      • Facilitate the design review process and coordinate customer comment incorporation.
      • Prepare status reports for supervision and project management in Aeropropulsion, Flight, and Space and Missiles.
    • Participate in Improvement projects related to planning, scheduling, and the overall work management process.
    • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.
    Basic Qualifications:
    • BS in engineering degree from an accredited college or university plus a minimum of 3 years of progressive and relevant experience.
    • Current United States Citizenship is required.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated experience leading team on multiple small projects or single large project
    • Design engineering experience of 3 years
    • PMI certification
    • Experience with scheduling software (e.g., Primivera) for projects including taking all projects and rolling them up into a current resource workload
    • Demonstrated proficiency with standard PC systems and Microsoft office software applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.
    • Experience working with data and statistics is desirable
