The day-to-day tasks of a Structure Maintenance Technician would be performing operational gate changes at our manually operated water control structures (training will be provided on this task); preventative maintenance at structures; sign installation; painting; and general structure, building maintenance and other duties as assigned. Performs mechanical work associated with repair and maintenance of water control structures, navigation locks, and field station buildings and facilities. Mechanical ability to perform overhauls on water control gates and gearboxes.
Must be able to read and follow job specifications, blueprints, and diagrams. Utilize hand tools, power tools, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Performs welding including brazing torch work, cutting, and fitting, and arc welding layout and design.
This position requires participation in the Pumping Operations Program as either a Pump Station Assistant (PSA) or Pump Station Operator (PSO) at any time during employment. As a non-pump station employee, training will be provided to assist the pump station crews during any pumping operations needed, whether during normal work shifts, extended day or evening shifts, weekends, or holidays, etc. Both the PSA and PSO positions require intense training and mastery of controls and operations of each pump station.
This position is subject to random mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
Work hours are Monday - Thursday from 6:00 am – 4:30 pm.

Employment Guidelines
High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of experience in structure and facility maintenance or mechanical repair. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Licenses
Valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License
(CDL) without restriction to operate vehicle equipped with airbrakes and a manual transmission. If selected candidate does not currently possess CDL, the District will provide 60 days from date of hire to obtain CDL Learner’s Permit and 180 days to obtain CDL License. District is willing to pay cost of CDL training program.
Ability to obtain certification in Rigging, Forklift Operations, AED, CPR and First Aid.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Due to the District's response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may at times, be required to provide support before, during, and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies, depending on assigned emergency response role.
Primarily field work in general outdoor environment with regular exposure to unpredictable weather conditions: sun, heat, and rain. Overtime will be required based on weather and/or environmental conditions.
