    Job Description




    State law requires the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to provide qualified support to the Transportation Asset Management Council (TAMC). This position participates in tasks and activities required to support the TAMC, and the TAMC Coordinator. The TAMC consists of representatives from MDOT, the County Road Association, the Michigan Municipal League, the Michigan Township Association, regional and metropolitan planning agencies, county government, and the Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB). Transportation Asset Management (TAM) is a strategic and systematic process of operating, maintaining, upgrading, and expanding physical assets effectively throughout their lifecycle. It focuses on business and engineering practices for resource allocation and utilization, with the objective of better decision making based upon quality information and well defined objectives. Such transportation assets include, but are not limited to pavement, bridges, culverts and signals. The position is responsible for providing support for TAMC directives, programs and planning activities related to improving the road and bridge infrastructure conditions across the state, and achieving statewide and federal asset management requirements, goals, and priorities. This position completes and oversees a variety of professional planning assignments in support of the TAMC. Key responsibilities include: supporting committee, meeting, and conference activities; data collection and analysis; report development; training; and other activities required to serve the Council. The Transportation Planner assists the TAMC Coordinator and supervisor with these responsibilities and other activities in support of the TAMC.


    The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry (9) level through the maximum rate at the experienced (P11) level. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.

    Required Education and Experience

    Education
    Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major with at least 30 semester (45 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: planning (city, community, environmental, regional, and/or urban), environmental studies and/or sustainability, engineering, statistics, mathematics, geography, geographic/geospatial information systems, logistics and/or supply chain management, or economics.

    Transportation Planner 10
    One year of professional experience in the planning, mapping, or assessment of transportation, land use, environmental, or community systems equivalent to a Transportation Planner 9.

    Transportation Planner P11
    Two years of professional experience in the planning, mapping, or assessment of transportation, land use, environmental, or community systems equivalent to a Transportation Planner, including one year equivalent to a Transportation Planner 10.
