Modifies and replaces parts such as instruments, wiring, and tires. Being an Aircraft Mechanic (Non-Jet) identifies hazardous aircraft conditions and determines when aircraft should not be flown. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, Aircraft Mechanic (Non-Jet) may require certification from FAA-approved aviation maintenance technician school. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Aircraft Mechanic (Non-Jet) works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Job Purpose/Function:
The B Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance of Norwalk Transit District’s fleet of diesel and gas powered vehicles, including buses, body-on-chassis vehicles and all support vehicles; vehicle related components, including wheelchair lifts and ramps; vehicle support equipment; facilities and their related equipment, including fork lift and sweeper; light repair of HVAC, electrical and plumbing; maintaining all fixed passenger amenities; and, other duties as assigned by the Foreman/Management. All duties are performed with light supervision of an A Mechanic or the Foreman.

Safety & Security:
Responsible for contributing to a safe and secure work environment. Is cognizant of surroundings and acts in a safe manner at all times. Is knowledgeable of and adheres to OSHA, NTD and other safety standards, directives and advisories, both written and verbal. Uses safety equipment and protective clothing as appropriate and necessary. Maintains good housekeeping habits in work area to avoid injury to self or others. Immediately reports to their respective supervisor or Manager of Safety and Security any safety or security issue and makes recommendations for improvement. Observes building access restrictions and locks doors when not present. Knows the nearest two safety exits and participates in safety drills.
This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Education and Experience Required:
Physical Requirements: Must be able to read, write and communicate fluently in English. Frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, crouch and kneel. The member must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 75 pounds.
Work Environment: There will be frequent interaction with employees and customers. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate. Work is generally performed within a maintenance shop environment.
