Animal Scientist jobs in Delaware City, DE

Working under the Division of Public Health, The Office of Animal Welfare seeks dedicated inviduals to work as Animal Welfare Law Enforcement Officers. Officers will provide effective and efficient response to animal related calls for service and enforcement of laws regarding dog control, animal cruelty and rabies control. Primary goals are animal protection and public safety.

Duties include: Safe capture, care and transport of animals including stray, neglected and injured pets; investigation of animal cruelty, dangerous dogs, and human rabies exposure bite cases; issuing citations or corrections; participating in court proceedings. Officers will also provide education and resources to pet owners, work to mitigate neighbor disputes, proactively patrol assigned areas, and act as first responder to all animal related emergencies.

Hours: Part time is 25-29 hours per week. DAS operates 7 days a week: weekdays from 9am - 9pm, and weekends 10am-6pm. Schedule will include shifts within those hours.

Requirements: Applicants must have education or experience in enforcement, investigations, public safety and/or animals. Must be highly motivated toward the welfare and humane treatment of all animals. Must be able to deal both firmly and courteously with the public. Computer literacy with proficient use of programs including Microsoft Office programs, email, Internet, and database management software.

Valid driver's license required.

Criminal Background check is condition of employment.

As a condition of hire you must obtain an Animal Welfare Officer certification within 60 days of hire. Training will be provided by the Office of Animal Welfare.

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent, college preferred.

Created in 2016, Delaware Animal Services (DAS) is the community service and enforcement unit of the Delaware Division of Public Health Office of Animal Welfare (OAW), handing over 20,000 calls for service statewide per year. DAS works to ensure the health and safety of animals, people and the community.
