Title: Elementary (K-4) Social Worker or School Counselor
Classification: Certified
Licensure:
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Social Work and the ability to obtain a Minnesota Board of Social Work license and a Minnesota Department of Education School Social Work
OR
- Masters in School Counselor and the ability to obtain a Minnesota Department of Education School School Counselor license.
Reports to: Building Principal
Job Goal: To assist in providing students at the elementary level with a physically, emotionally, and mentally safe environment in school with their peers and school staff.
Qualifications/Characteristics
Previous experience working with various youth populations preferred
Possesses strong written and oral communication skills
Displays excellent interpersonal skills with students, colleagues, and community resources
Demonstrates compassion, empathy, and caring for students and colleagues
Possesses excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize and organize work
Remains calm and cool-headed under pressure with a positive attitude and a dedication to helping others
Is self-directed and self-motivated with the ability to lead and mentor others
Is comfortable building personal relationships and establishing trust with youth and families
Understanding of PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) and MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports)
Duties
Educate staff on the various mental health conditions of students, their trauma responses and behaviors, and the implementation of key interventions
Work with staff and students to promote a positive, safe, healthy, happy learning environment across the district.
Utilize evidence-based social and emotional interventions.
Assist in the efficacy of evidence-based models in classrooms
Develop a plan of action for individuals or groups of students based on data collection and observed or reported behaviors.
Assist the Student Services team in supporting students’ mental health needs.
Assist in implementing PBIS and MTSS services, developing intervention strategies to increase academic success.
