Artist develops and creates sketches and other visualizations and produces finished art work for creative projects. Collaborates with creative teams to understand the intended audience, branding requirements, and positioning of concepts. Being an Artist translates requirements into required media and formats. Applies the concepts of perspective, color theory, anatomy, and composition and utilizes art assets and software tools to produce art work. Additionally, Artist may work on a variety of projects in marketing, advertising, game design, and cinematics. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in art, graphic design or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Artist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. South Asian Youth Action (SAYA) is an inclusive, South Asian-focused 501(c)3 youth development organization. Through our innovative, holistic approach, we work toward education equity by providing opportunities and resources to less privileged New York City youth, ensuring they are empowered academically, emotionally, and socially to become engaged community members.
Established in 1996, SAYA has grown into a $3.8 million organization currently serving over 1,400 youth each year through programming at nine NYC schools and our community center in Elmhurst, Queens. Position Summary:
The Teaching Artist will be responsible to lead, develop and execute lesson plans in a specialized enrichment activity. They must have a strong interest in working with youth K-8th grades and have expertise in one or more discipline or content-specific program activities or subjects such as Drumming, Graphic Design, STEM, leadership, Visual Arts, Free Expression, Theater, Martial Arts, Zumba, and Dance or another activity or subject area that enriches the experiences of scholars at after school programs throughout Queens.
Reports to: Program Director
Compensation: $30-$40 an hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is an in-person position for the school year from September through June with potential rehire for summer and the following year
