Job Summary: Prepare, plan, and operate audio/visual equipment for meetings, events, classes, seminars at the Salvation Army camps. Ensure camp activities are recorded to be used in Salvation Army publications. Captures video/pictures for Salvation Army publications. Provides direction on the development and delivery of challenge course activities for the Salvation Army camps. Deliver challenge course activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities. Manages the physical operation of the challenge course facilities and equipment. Essential Functions: Sets up, adjusts, and operates audio/visual equipment for various camp programs, including worship services and concerts. Operates and installs audio/visual equipment. Keeps sound room clean and organized. Reports to Program Director any problems with audio/visual equipment. Secures and locks all audio/visual equipment after each session. Videotapes camp activities daily. Produces a weekly review video for each camp session including all music camps. Produce a staff video and camp promotional video. Instructs camp employees in the selection, use, and design of audio/visual materials, and assist them in the preparation of instructional materials and the rehearsal of presentations. Plans and prepares audio/visual teaching aids and methods to be used in camp classes. Performs simple maintenance tasks such as cleaning monitors and lenses and changing batteries and light bulbs. Maintains collections of audio/visual material such as films, video/audio tapes, photographs, and software programs. Ensures campers and staff follows safety procedures. Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions. Sits with camper tables during meals and serve as a table monitor when needed. Keeps personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection. Be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director. Expands the camp’s challenge course activities with new challenges. Delivers progressive challenge course program activities. Trains other staff in their challenge course responsibilities. Ensures campers and staff follows safety procedures for challenge course activities. Ensures properly fitted protective headgear is worn by all participants. Evaluates and documents challenge course abilities of campers and staff. Conducts daily checks of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness and good repair. Secures and locks all equipment at the end of each session. Identifies and manages environmental and other potential hazards related to the activity. Ensures record keeping of regular inspection and maintenance of all equipment and elements utilized in adventure/challenge activities. Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards. Participates enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights and other all-camp activities and camp functions. Ability to communicate effectively with campers and camp staff. Ability to perform live saving techniques, C.P.R. and first aid procedures in emergency situations. Ability to operate digital cameras and video equipment. Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff. Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity. Licenses and Certifications CPR & First Aid Certification Certification obtained within the past three (3) years from a recognized organization or certifying body for the type of activities offered or documented training AND recent experience leading/facilitating the type of activities offered? Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Some physical requirements of the Camp Audio/Visual Specialist position could be endurance including climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate audio/visual equipment and activities are required.
