Your Opportunity

We are seeking a Project Services Team Lead to oversee our Project Control, Document Control, and Project Support staff, located in multiple offices (currently California and Maine, but potentially other locations may be added) that provide a variety of engineering solutions to primarily Energy (traditional power generation, renewable, and energy transition) and Heavy Industrial clients, but also to clients in other industries. Our Project Services Specialists (Project Control, Document Control, Project Support) are key members of the Project Management Team responsible for collaborating with Project Managers and project teams to provide support for the successful execution of projects through conformance to Stantec’s PM Framework, corporate policies, and client requirements and standards. The Project Services Team Leader will provide direct supervision, training, mentoring, and problem-solving assistance to the Project Controls Specialists located in the various offices.

Your Key Responsibilities

Provide direct supervision to the Project Controls Specialists to ensure project controls functions are being executed in accordance with Stantec’s PM Framework, the project scope, and the business centers project management practices. This includes project financial monitoring and reporting, project schedule development and maintenance, as well as internal and external project reporting. The Project Services Team leader will be responsible to ensure each project has an assigned Project Controls Specialist, as well as document control support, as required, and will work the Project Management Commercial Leader (PMCL) on maintaining applicable staffing levels.

The position will be fast paced and dynamic with new challenges encountered frequently.

• Manage project controller and document controller workloads, and manage their assignment to new projects and pursuits
• Collaborate with project managers to identify/define the project services needs for their projects
• Collaborate with business developers and proposal managers to support the development of project controls scopes of services and cost estimates for new business opportunities
• Collaborate with business developers and proposal managers in large project pursuits to develop preliminary schedules, project set up, resource forecasting assistance to discipline leads, etc.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to the project controls specialist in the use of Stantec’s project management tools and software
• Constantly monitor and initiate improvements in document control practices for projects
• Facilitate or conduct staff training on specific programs such as the document register, IPS, Primavera, MS Project, etc.
• The Project Services Team lead will align themselves with corporate project control teams to ensure we are staying current with Stantec practices
• Provide direct supervision to the Project control staff
• Develop and maintain document templates for the BC
• Develop project-specific Document Managements Plans
• Coordinate and/or perform project QA audits
• Maintain personal utilization at 65% or higher

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Expert level experience with Primavera P6 and/or MS Project Scheduling Software, financial management software such as Oracle and typical MS Office including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access
• Expert level experience in Earned Value Management methodologies including cost performance index, schedule performance index, earned value at completion, forecasted estimate at completion metrics
• Prior experience on larger multi-discipline projects, with fees more than $1M, as a project controls specialist
• Prior experience in developing and presenting project financial status information to executive leadership at a summary level
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and assignments
• Excellent written and verbal communications a must
• Ability to travel up to 10%

Education and Experience

• Minimum 10 years of project related experience
• Prior experience working in energy/power/heavy industrial engineering environment preferred
• Minimum two-year business or related degree preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field, or equivalent experience

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
