Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP, a global Am Law 50 firm, is seeking a Budgeting and Forecasting Manager.
We prefer candidates who can work from our Los Angeles office, but will consider other candidates who can work from one of our other U.S. offices. The other offices we are considering are: Century City, Orange County, Downtown San Diego, Del Mar, Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Houston, Dallas, New York, Chicago, or Washington DC. There is only one opening.
The Budgeting and Forecasting Manager will have direct visibility with Firm senior management as well as significant interaction with leadership across functional areas. The Budgeting and Forecasting Manager has superior communication skills, a capacity for forging close professional relationships, and a track record of favorably influencing business performance. The ideal candidate is results-driven, possesses a strong drive to exceed personal goals, and is naturally inclined to anticipate risks, take ownership of challenges, and make sound decisions.
Responsibilities:
General Management

Ability to effectively monitor financial activity and provide appropriate, detailed analytical explanation and recommendations.

Ability to identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement across the Firm.

Knowledge of and ability to effectively create and customize the budgetary process to the needs of the Firm.

Ability to perform complex work with attention and care, including detailed level review, analysis and interpretation.

Oversee and create relevant financial models to assist with Firm strategic decision process.
Essential Functions of Job:

Responsible for Firm budget and production of analytical and forecast data.

Develop and communicate departmental guidelines and procedures.

Facilitate effective working relationships across departments and across functions inside department.

Ability to perform complex work with attention and care, including detailed level review, analysis and interpretation.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Budgeting and Forecasting Manager will oversee an accountant who will assist with analysis and the preparation of the budget.
Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications: 5 years’ experience in handling of financial planning and analysis.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in AmLaw 100 law firm accounting department or experience in “Big 4” public accounting.
Education
Required: Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred: Master’s Degree
Major (if applicable): Accounting or Finance
License and Certification
Required: Certified Public Accountant
Computer/Software Knowledge
Required: Microsoft Office, with particular focus and expertise in Microsoft Excel and SQL queries.
Preferred: Experience with Aderant Expert and Chrome River.
Work Environment

The current Firm policy is hybrid–working in the office a minimum of 3 days per week and working from home the rest of the week (subject to change).

Evening and weekend work will be required as job duties demand.
Travel Requirements
Occasional travel up to 10% of the time to various office or conference locations to meet and discuss Firm issues as well as seek out additional knowledge.

California: The salary range for this position is $105,000 to $150,000 per year.
New York: The pay range for this position is: $105,000 - $150,000 per year. Please note that the foregoing compensation information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to the New York City Salary Transparency Law.
