May be assigned to residential or commercial structures. Being a Building Inspector, Sr. may require an advanced degree. Typically reports to supervisor or manager. The Building Inspector, Sr. gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Sr Construction Inspector - Per Diem

    Weston & Sampson is currently seeking a per diem Certified Senior Inspector to inspection services for LOTCIP Project No. L071-0001 – Ledyard High School Multi-Use Pathway and Sidewalk Extension. Work on this project includes the installation of a multi-use pathway, roadway reconstruction and drainage, block retaining walls, and the construction of a sanitary sewer force main.

     

    What you’ll do:

    • Resolves day-to-day problems, and answers specific technical questions which arise, with assistance from the Chief Certified Construction Representative or other manager
    • Be knowledgeable of conditions depicted by the documents and promptly report any errors or omissions in the contract drawings or potential site variations to the Chief Certified Construction Representative or other manager
    • Maintains close contact with the Owner and its representatives throughout the construction phase of the project, and ensures that Owner is fully informed of significant project impacts
    • Sets up and operates the field office.
    • Prepares and maintains all required records following current Construction Services guidelines
    • Provides recommendations for design improvements that could be useful on future work
    • Forward on at least a weekly basis, copies of all pertinent records including Daily Work Reports, Weekly Reports, field correspondence, conference memoranda, change Monitors work of construction contractors to ensure general compliance with contract requirements and report any deviations to Chief Certified Construction Representative or other manager
    • Be knowledgeable of proper use and care for equipment and supplies. Maintain equipment and field and office supplies.

    What you will bring:

    • NICET Level III Certification in Transportation/Highway Construction is required except for those possessing a current Professional Engineer’s License in the State of Connecticut (PE)
    • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field preferred
    • 6 years employment in civil, highway or relevant engineering field of which 4 years shall have been in field inspection activities.
    • NETTCP/ACI, NRC and ATTSA certifications preferred and/or required depending upon some assignments
    • OSHA 10 Hour Safety Training
    • Knowledgeable of construction materials, methods, CT DOT Standards Specifications Form 818 and latest supplements.
    • Familiarity with CTDOT ‘s LOTCIP Schedule of Minimum Testing requirements and CT DOT’s Construction Engineering and Inspection Pamphlet for Consultant Engineers, update dated May 2022
    • Ability to maintain field and office records; perform complex quantity and engineering computations
    • Working knowledge and experience with reading, interpreting plans and specification
    • Capable of doing field survey and other physical tasks required
    • Ability to meet deadlines, to work cooperatively with others, work overtime, weekends and/or nights.
    • Valid Driver’s License
