Business Development Director directs the execution of the business development vision, strategy, plans, and processes to drive sales, increase revenue, expand markets, and accomplish financial objectives. Identifies and evaluates new markets, partners, channels, and customers. Being a Business Development Director develops and uses contacts and relationships within the industry, business environment, and customer base to understand and respond to competition, pricing, and product demand changes. Oversees the development of proposals and contracts for new business opportunities and manages negotiations. Additionally, Business Development Director collaborates with marketing, sales, product development, and other stakeholders to support business development plans. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Business Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Business Development Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Compensation: $175,000 - $225,000 / year

    Description

    The business development team’s role is to win business for Impulse Space’s orbital transfer and hosting products. This role is tasked with initiating and closing commercial business. While you’ll have technical and marketing support in proposal development, this role is intended for a highly motivated individual contributor who believes they can create a substantial impact on Impulse’s commercial business prospects.



    Responsibilities

    • Identify target commercial customers and key decisionmakers
    • Develop relationships with key stakeholders, a crisp understanding of their needs, and a thesis on why we can win their business
    • Lead commercial business development in target identification, proposal generation, negotiation and closing
    • Be a trusted, respected ambassador for the company in forums ranging from trade conferences to meetings in the C-suite of major companies



    Minimum Qualifications

    • Strong understanding of the commercial satellite market, with a particular focus on GEO
    • Demonstrated ability to identify, initiate, and close commercial contracts
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment
    • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with technical teams for proposal development
    • Must be able to travel as needed (20-40%)
    • 5 years' of demonstrated sales experience within the aerospace field or related industries


    Preferred Skills and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
    • Advanced degree in a technical field and/or an MBA
    • Familiarity and experience with one or more of the following: GEO telecom market; emerging trends in micro-GEO; GEO/GTO launch services; cis-lunar commercial applications
    Additional Information:

    Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
