Business Development Director directs the execution of the business development vision, strategy, plans, and processes to drive sales, increase revenue, expand markets, and accomplish financial objectives. Identifies and evaluates new markets, partners, channels, and customers. Being a Business Development Director develops and uses contacts and relationships within the industry, business environment, and customer base to understand and respond to competition, pricing, and product demand changes. Oversees the development of proposals and contracts for new business opportunities and manages negotiations. Additionally, Business Development Director collaborates with marketing, sales, product development, and other stakeholders to support business development plans. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Business Development Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Business Development Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     As a Business Development Director, you will leverage your existing relationships and create new ones to build Connor Group’s brand and presence in the marketplace.  You will be supporting our service line leaders, achieving defined sales goals, and establishing contact with executives in some of the most exciting high-growth and emerging industries.   

     

    As a key Business Development Professional in New York, your primary responsibility will be a) identifying, cultivating, and closing new and follow-on business in the metro and b) partnering with the New York-based team to expand the market.  

     

    You will develop or strengthen your relationships with companies at various stages of their growth cycle (from inception to maturity) in various industries. You will be in regular communication and build deep connections with our eco-system partners and be comfortable evangelizing the Connor Group brand and our various services to these entities, including driving growth of newer services in the East region.

     

    Day to day responsibilities include advancing New York specific business development strategies and executing against the East region’s overall growth vision. This will include working with New York and East region leadership, developing the referral ecosystem with existing and new relationships, prospecting and meeting new potential clients (e.g., breakfasts, lunches, coffees, networking events, industry meetups, etc.), preparing and delivering sales pitches, and attending conferences and workshops.

     

    You will also be responsible for managing client negotiations with the engagement partner (i.e., Statements of Work), responding to referrals (from our ecosystem, former clients, business contacts, execs, and board members, etc.), and developing relationships with ecosystem partners. You will also be expected to lead events/workshops in the region.  

     

    To successfully expand upon your vast network you will research, email, and call prospects in targeted industries leveraging LinkedIn and Pitchbook. You will support and drive marketing and branding efforts (e.g., Big 4 appreciation events and co-sponsored training events). You will understand and work towards achieving utilization goals to properly manage the business.

    Responsibilities
    • Identify and close business from new clients and follow-on work from existing clients.
    • Understand the marketplace and stay closely tuned in to potential client activity and attack new leads via cold calling, industry introductions, networking, and industry meetups.
    • Develop excellent relationships with the New York team and firm leaders.
    • Leverage personal and professional relationships to drive high value introductions to professionals in relevant industry arenas. This could be in both New York and across the country.
    • Develop and build client pipeline across the service lines (Accounting Advisory, IPO Services, Financial Close & Reporting, Transformation & Risk, Digital Solutions, and Mergers & Acquisitions), by teaming with service line leaders to achieve quarterly/annual goals.
    • Prepare and process responses to client requests for quotes, NDAs, Engagement Letters, and Statements of Work.
    • Foster relationships with regional eco-system partners (Private equity/venture capital, Big 4, printers, law firms, stock exchanges, banks, financial software providers NetSuite, etc.) as well as investors, etc.
    • Execute and attend various events in the market (IPO workshops, CFO Summit, training, and other marketing/brand awareness activities, Networking events, industry meetups, Big 4 meetups, etc.).


    Desired Skills & Experience
    • Established and relevant business network in New York with CFOs, Company Executives, VP Finance & Controllers
    • Network with mid-market venture-backed or private-equity and public companies ($100M to $20B in valuation/market cap)
    • Industry range includes growth companies (technology, life sciences, etc.) and established industries (manufacturing, construction, retail, etc.).
    • Geographically our growth is aimed primarily at New York
    • Range of 10 to 20 years of relevant business experience (BD/Sales/Accounting)
    • Polished and likable (will show well with ecosystem Partners and in client pitches)
    • Comprehensive understanding of professional services in the accounting, finance, and systems space
    • Hungry and ambitious
    • High integrity


    Travel
    • A willingness to travel ~10%  as needed.

    Compensation Range: $180,000 - $200,000 Variable compensation

    Actual compensation within the range is dependent upon the employee’s performance, skills, experience and qualifications.
